Dr. Aarti Sarwal is a nationally recognized neurologist, neurointensivist, and clinical informatics leader whose career has been defined by a commitment to advancing the care of critically ill neurologic patients. She serves as Professor of Neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she brings together expertise in neurocritical care, neurosonology, and data‑driven clinical practice to improve outcomes for patients with life‑threatening neurologic conditions.
Dr. Sarwal’s training spans multiple disciplines and continents. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Government Medical College in Patiala, India, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Informatics. She completed both Internal Medicine and Neurology residencies at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where she developed a strong foundation in acute neurologic care. She then pursued fellowship training in Neurocritical Care at the Cleveland Clinic, one of the nation’s leading centers for neurologic intensive care.
Board certified in Neurology, Neurocritical Care (through both UCNS and ABPN/ACGME pathways), Clinical Informatics, and Neurosonology, Dr. Sarwal brings a uniquely comprehensive skill set to her clinical and academic work. She is also certified in neurovascular ultrasound through the American Society of Neuroimaging as a Registered Physician in Neurovascular Interpretation.
