Dr. Gyan Kumar is a vascular neurologist and neuroimaging specialist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he serves as Director of the Neurovascular Ultrasound Laboratory and Director of the Young Stroke Clinic.


As a Consultant in the Division of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, he plays a central role in advancing cerebrovascular care, education, and research across the institution.


Dr. Kumar’s clinical and academic work focuses on the full spectrum of cerebrovascular disease, with particular expertise in transcranial Doppler and cerebrovascular ultrasound, acute ischemic stroke, intracranial stenosis, vasospasm, cerebral hemodynamics, and stroke in young adults. His leadership has helped expand and modernize neurovascular ultrasound programs, and he contributes nationally through teaching, research, and participation in guideline‑relevant initiatives that shape the future of stroke neuroimaging.


A Fellow of both the American Society of Neuroimaging and the American Academy of Neurology, Dr. Kumar serves on the ASN Board of Directors and remains deeply engaged in the Society’s educational and certification efforts. His work reflects a commitment to elevating neuroimaging standards, improving diagnostic precision, and advancing the care of patients with cerebrovascular disease.
