Dr. Joseph C. Masdeu has built his career at the forefront of neuroimaging, cognitive neurology, and academic leadership, shaping the field through decades of clinical innovation, scientific scholarship, and organizational service.

As Director of the Nantz National Alzheimer Center in Houston and Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medicine, he leads programs dedicated to improving the diagnosis and care of patients with cognitive impairment. His work integrates advanced imaging modalities—including fMRI and PET—with neuropathologic insight to advance early detection and understanding of neurodegenerative disease.

His contributions to the field are extensive: he is the author of 295 scientific publications indexed in PubMed and seven books, including the seminal Localization in Clinical Neurology, now in its 8th edition.

A past President of the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN) and former member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Board of Directors, Dr. Masdeu has long been a guiding voice in shaping national standards in neuroimaging and neurologic education. He remains an active member of the AAN and the American Neurological Association (ANA).

Throughout his career, Dr. Masdeu has championed efforts to strengthen training pathways and ensure that neurology residents receive clear guidance on opportunities for certified recognition of neuroimaging skills, whether acquired during residency or through post‑residency development.
