Dr. Joshua P. Klein is a nationally recognized neurologist whose career has been devoted to advancing hospital neurology and diagnostic neuroimaging. As Professor of Clinical Neurology at Harvard Medical School, he has played a central role in shaping modern approaches to acute neurologic care and imaging‑based diagnosis. He is the founding Chief of the Division of Hospital Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he helped establish one of the country’s leading programs dedicated to the care of hospitalized patients with complex neurologic conditions.
Dr. Klein graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania before entering the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale University School of Medicine, where he earned both his MD and PhD degrees. He completed his neurology residency in the Harvard BWH/MGH program, serving as chief resident in his final year, followed by a fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroimaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board certified in both Neurology and Neuroimaging, reflecting his dual commitment to clinical excellence and imaging‑based inquiry.
Throughout his career, Dr. Klein has held leadership roles across several major professional organizations, including the American Society of Neuroimaging, The Neurohospitalist Society, and the American Academy of Neurology. His scholarly contributions span a wide range of clinical neurology topics, and he has become a respected educator through his direction of continuing medical education courses in both Neurology and Hospital Medicine. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroimaging and is Editor‑in‑Chief of The Neurohospitalist.
Dr. Klein is also an accomplished author and editor. He co‑authored or co‑edited the three most recent editions of Adams and Victor’s Principles of Neurology, the world’s leading neurology textbook, as well as the Oxford Textbook of Neurohaematology and the 10th edition of Samuels’s Manual of Neurologic Therapeutics. His contributions have helped shape the educational foundation for neurologists around the globe.
A past Secretary and Executive Officer of the American Society of Neuroimaging, Dr. Klein has also been recognized as a Fellow of the ASN (FASN), underscoring his longstanding commitment to the society and to the advancement of neuroimaging as a discipline.
