Dr. Rubin is a practicing vascular neurohospitalist neurologist, Service Chief of Neurology at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Medical Center near Chicago, IL and an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Loyola University Medical Center Stritch School of Medicine. He has twenty eight peer reviewed published manuscripts, and is first or senior author on nearly all of them. He has conducted original investigations in several areas within neurology including but not limited to telestroke, epilepsy and the alien limb phenomenon but the focus of research and basis for promotion has been neurosonology (transcranial Doppler and carotid duplex ultrasound). He was the National Principal Investigator for a device trial (NCT04604015) of robot-assisted transcranial Doppler vs transthoracic echocardiography for the detection of right to left shunts. He has been a Co-Chair of the American Society of Neuroimaging (ASN) Neurosonology Examination Subcommittee since 2017, playing an integral role in the development and maintenance of both of the IAC-approved RPNI and NVS credentialing examinations. He joined the ASN Board of Directors in 2023.
